Newly Diagnosed Support Groups
|
|
QPP runs several support groups specifically for people newly diagnosed with HIV per year. These groups are a commitment for two weeks, two evenings per week, where each evening will cover a different topic related to living with HIV.
Topics include;
- Disclosure
- HIV & the Law
- Treatments
- Community Services
- Relationships
- Emotions
Newly diagnosed support groups are also a great opportunity to obtain as much information as you can in a safe and supportive environment, as well as to meet and socialise with other HIV+ people. The program shall be adapted into a weekend workshop for regional areas in 2011. |

A resource providing information for people recently diagnosed with HIV is available called “Next Steps”. The resource is a booklet covering a range of topics including treatments and monitoring, transmitting and preventing HIV, safe sex, relationships, sexually transmitted infections, legal rights, health maintenance, women's issues and the stages of adapting after diagnosis. It includes real-life stories shared by people living with HIV about their experiences after their diagnosis. As well as providing information for people recently diagnosed with HIV, the booklet can also be used by anyone with HIV wanting to revisit information relating to their diagnosis. “Next Steps” is available from QPP. Please call and we'll send you a copy.
