China lifts ban on HIV-positive travellers

China announced yesterday that it had lifted travel restrictions for foreigners who suffer from HIV and AIDS ahead of the 2010 Expo.

The State Council, or cabinet, announced that an amendment to the law on the entry of foreigners into China had removed the travel ban on HIV/AIDS carriers to the nation effective on Tuesday.

The newly amended law was published in full on the government website.

These organisations already have extensive experience of providing health care in Haiti, and are seeking to step up their activities in order to mitigate the extensive damage caused by last week’s devastating earthquake.

Asian gay men’s sex survey reports high levels of sex without condoms

The world’s second-largest sex survey of men who have sex with men, focusing mainly on men in East and Southeast Asia, has found that 46% of those who had anal intercourse reported inconsistent condom use with casual partners, and higher levels of unprotected sex with regular partners.

Johns Hopkins Awarded $8 Million for HIV Eradication Research

The National Institutes of Mental Health have awarded $8 million to researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore to develop methods to fully eradicate HIV from the body and the nervous system.

A complex nutritional formula may help slow CD4 cell decline and reduce immune activation in people with HIV who have not yet started antiretroviral therapy, according to an international study presented this week at the 49th ICAAC in San Francisco.

Pregnancy registry shows no evidence that tenofovir causes birth defects

An analysis of data submitted to the Antiretroviral Pregnancy Registry revealed no evidence that tenofovir use by HIV-positive pregnant women - either during the first trimester or later in pregnancy - is associated with an increased risk of birth defects
